Ben: It seems obvious to me the old man who wants to return to pure water is Dissidens. In summary, the historic church failed its responsibility as mediator of all things pure and lovely, and catered instead to the debased tastes of the unregenerate masses and fleshly Christians. In consequence, the modern church has lost its ability to discern the pure and lovely through long ingestion of the corrupt and ugly, directly leading not only to a degradation of worship but to a widespread degradation of all things holy.

The parable is typical Dissidensian doctrine. I don't subscribe to it myself--at least not to the degree that Dissidens & Co. takes it--but that's the general gist of it. Ryan can correct any misunderstandings I may have revealed.
