Purpose Driven Synagogue Update: Rick Warren's New Liberalism?

Thabiti Anyabwile provides an update on Rick Warren's contribution to synagogue health. Apparently Warren has now concluded that it's possible and desirable to invite those who deny that Jesus is the Messiah to participate in Christian "worship."

Can anybody make the case for me that Warren isn't just peddling a new liberalism?

He's peddling something, and doctrine is not it.

Interestingly, in this article he cites a new reformation, one of deeds rather than doctrine.

"You know, 500 years ago, the first Reformation with Luther and then Calvin, was about beliefs. I think a new reformation is going to be about behavior. The first Reformation was about creeds; I think this one will be about deeds. I think the first one was about what the church believes; I think this one will be about what the church does."

Paul had no problems with doctrine leading to deeds:

Titus 1:1 ¶ Paul, a servant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ for the faith of God’s elect and the knowledge of the *truth that leads to *godliness.

Zane,

I think Matthew's point (and if it's not his, it would certainly be mine) is that Warren is trying to reform deeds without a biblical, coherent doctrinal foundation. His deeds are simply deeds, not deeds that proceed from doctrine.

I agree that doctrine leads to deeds. I don't think that's what we're seeing with Warren.
