You Might Be a Paleoevangelical If . . . (#3)

. . . you read a message on a church marquee that says, "Patriotic Worship Celebration July 3rd," and you spend the rest of the day wondering exactly what they were worshiping and celebrating last Sunday.

I guess I might be a Paleoevangelical. I share your lament. Why do we so drape the cross with the flag? People are drawn out by thoughts of America and patriotic themes move them. Why doesn't the cross have this same impact? We get goosebumps when we hear the National Anthem, but why don't we get goosebumps when we hear "Be Thou My Vision"? To the average Christian the cross seems less real, less relevant, less meaningful than Old Glory. M
