Friday Free Kicks

Yes, I do have World Cup fever.

Here's what I've got for you today . . .

The Grace to You blog points out, once again, how academic respect is fertile soil for producing the fruit of biblical infidelity. Have these BioLogos people not read 1 Corinthians 1-3?

Scott Aniol is surprised that 9Marks has collaborated with Christian hip-hop artists. I'm not sure if he's surprised that rappers beat most fundamentalists to biblical ecclesiology. They'd do well to grasp and apply the biblical truth contained in this song, even if it means they have to read the words on paper:

"If" you think this poem represents a perspective that's compatible with the gospel, you may not really understand the poem . . . or the gospel.

Finally, if this video doesn't make you AT LEAST smile, you're either not an American, or you're working too hard at hating soccer:

Ben, winning the world cup is only slightly less exciting than watching some insect molt.

It reminds me of when the Tampa Bay Lightning, a mere 1.5 hours from me, won the Stanly Cup. About 20,000 people cared.

I would only cheer for America to win so that the rest of the world had to accept that we hate the sport and still are better than them.

Love Aniol's "but I suppose I shouldn't be" bit.

Is that because all Harvard and Oxford educated Southern Baptists are known for being down with the hood?

Or is it just, if you're not a fundamentalist, of course you'll be ok with anything?

I personally can't get rap no matter how I try, and I'm not sure what to make of the current wave of white, middle class churches promoting Christian rap. But, there's nothing obvious and foregone with any of this.
