Who do you think is "The Voice of Fundamentalism"?

Andrew Sullivan—the libertarian, gay, self-professed conservative, practicing Roman Catholic, political über-blogger—thinks it's this guy. Sullivan quotes Dever's exclusivistic definition of evangelism, which was recently excerpted by Christianity Today from Dever's recent book, The Gospel and Personal Evangelism.

Thanks for the heads up on this. I liked what Dever had to say about evangelism. He evangelizes like Jesus did, it seems, based on what He wrote.

Regarding Sullavin's surmisal, I thought he was simply calling what Dever said the voice of fundamentalsm, not that Dever himself was the voice of fundamentalism. In other words, that kind of teaching is the voice of fundamentalism that you hear---essentially something that sounds absolutist and unwavering. It's true, IMO, that in that particular article Dever sounded more fundamental than most fundamentalists.

The voice of fundamentalism? I would say it's some guy named Remonstrant or something like that. If you go over to SI, you'll find his followers who seem to almost worship him and the ground he walks on. I don't know anything about him or what he says, other than he has quite the following. I think maybe his right hand man is a guy called Phil Johnson or something? Again, I have no clue who this guy is either. But he's another fellow who seems to have a cult following who await with glee any word that he may utter out of his mouth........Now that I think about it, I should check these guys out for myself. I too might become a follower.

It would be healthy to not regard a single voice of fundamentalism!

There's been a certain "cult of personality" that has infected the movement from early on.

I disagree.

Kent,

I think you're right about Sullivan's intent. After all, he's a complete outsider and isn't really intending to say who speaks for whom. But I think the way you develop your point directs us to the lesson we might do well to take away.

Oops, I'm the guy who said Remonstrant was the cult leader. I think I might have been confused. I think it's some guy called Diffident or Dissonance or something like that. Again, I have no idea what he teaches, but it must be good because his lackeyes hang onto every utterance out of his mouth as if he's the reincarnation of the great Jim Jones himself......I'm still going to check this guy out because I need a good leader in my life.
