I would have been thrilled enough if he had simply acknowledged that some guys were thinking this and that they might have good reason for doing so. But for him to do what he did and actually state his agreement was phenomenal.

Over the past year I've seen lots of discouraging things along these lines, but I've also seen and heard and heard about plenty of other things that are quite encouraging.

In my opinion, anything good that happens in this arena will be incremental, for a number of reasons, some of which are good, and others of which are debatable. There is an emerging conversation, so to speak (beyond what we see at SI, both in significance and substance). Things are happening that to my knowledge have never happened before. Where that conversation goes, nobody knows, but I think that communication is a good thing and a perfectly fine place to start.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7080491.post-1143230385837414182006-03-24T13:59:00.000-06:002006-03-24T13:59:00.000-06:00It's obvious, Wendy, that our movement is "fundame...It's obvious, Wendy, that our movement is "fundamental-less." If Bauder, a leading fundamentalist, is saying this as well, it leads to pretty profound questions about the foundation of the movement known as fundamentalism.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7080491.post-1143182565118750622006-03-24T00:42:00.000-06:002006-03-24T00:42:00.000-06:00My day job really puts me at a disadvantage on the...My day job really puts me at a disadvantage on these guessing games.
